Diary of a Mad Role-Player: SWRP NOT United Role-playing is, at its core, a story in which a number of people contribute through interactions with one another as custom characters. As a frequent RPer (read: role-play addict), I find myself faced with a dilemma that others I've encountered also deal with: the community.
Linden Homes On February 17th, LindenLabs unveiled their Linden Homes for premium customers. As a premium customer, in world for less than a year, regardless of what my “rezdate”
may say (I rolled up an avatar, wandered around for about 20 minutes, and logged out, not to return for several months.), this news made me pretty happy. I should say now, that while I'm a happy premium customer, I only..
Live like a Na'vi on Pandora in Second Life I've seen Avatar, not once, but four times, and soon will be watching it for the fifth. I'll be in line to get that DVD when it comes out. If you're like me and many others, wanting to experience the forests of Pandora, to fly an Ikran, and to ride a direhorse, you can! Or if  you identified more with the military and the collection of Unubtanium, you can also do that. After seeing Avatar each time, I'd return home to search Second Life for Pandora worlds, signs of the Na'vi wandering about. For weeks my searches produced zilch. Then one day, after returning home from seeing Avatar again..
Scripting 101: Running Scripts The first post in this series described how to create a script in Second Life. In this post, we'll show you how to place the script into an object in-world and get it running. In order for a script to run it must be in an object; scripts can't run when they're in your inventory -- or when the object they're in is in your inventory, either, for that matter. So the first thing you need is an object to put your script into.

Diary of a Mad RPer III - Dress Code

So, I’m back and ready with an entirely new rant. As many have no doubt guessed, I role-play on a number of sims and I have both the pleasure (and displeasure) of seeing a number of both great and not-so-great things.

That said, the most recent (though not necessarily the newest) role-play crime I’ve witness is, to put it nicely, a lack of players taking note of their setting. In one of the sims I role-play in, Dead End, it’s snowing. You know, as in winter and a possible blizzard.

So far, I have seen a small number of players taking this into account and dressing appropriately. To date, I’ve seen ladies in short skirts, open-toed heels and a jacket, if it’s a good day. Worst case, and sadly more common, scenario is a combination of the first, but also a tank top or a sweater with swooping neckline. For the guys, jeans and a wife beater or bare chest. Seriously.

How to buy land from In-World Company?

Blogs - Newcomer Friendly

Buying land within Second Life™ can be bit tedious and confusing. Tedious, because it does take time to find the land that suits your requirement. But there is something you should know before you jump into celebrations of your first land. I’ll call it “The Land Chain”.

Like we have various levels of distributions in Real Life, we have same in Second Life™ for the lands.
Consider the following example:

Mr. A buys land from Linden Labs™ which he further rents to Mr. B with Estate Management rights. Now, Mr. B, he splits the land into 4 quarters and puts them up for sale. Mr. and Mrs. C decide to rent the quarter from Mr. B. Mr. and Mrs. S decides to rent out the homes on the land to Mr. D, Ms. E and Ms F.

Selecting your First Land

Earlier we talked about the mainland and private estates with various types of private estates available for any resident.
In this, we will talk about the difference in getting land from Linden Labs™ and renting from another company in SL. Before that, we need to have some clarity on concept of buying vs. renting.
What exactly means buying? Why it is different from renting?
Logically speaking, the difference between buying and renting in SL is same as real world. You can either be owner of your property or rent it. Technically speaking, if you are “buying” from Linden Labs™ you are still renting it.

Diary of a Mad RP'er II: Realm of Mystara

Having been through enough in Star Wars RP, I have decided to test the fantasy waters in a sim that has no combat system, other than freeform combat (FFC), and a freeform appeal that I hadn't seen since Doomed Ship. In the Realm of Mystara, you are given the option of playing a character in a fantasy setting inspired by famous titles, such as Dungeons and Dragons. Spread across two sims, Stromness and Krillian, it is incredibly populated by a vast number of roleplayers of different backgrounds and styles.

As the rules state, there is a long list of races anyone can play without having to apply for extended membership. That said, some of the more popular races--of this season, at least---do require an application, such as the undead.

Welcome to Second Life Lands!

Blogs - Newcomer Friendly

You now have joined the creative yet familiar territory of the virtual worlds. You are done with exploring, have understood the basics of how to survive here, and now the big question looms over you.

What type of land should I buy?

It is a relevant question considering the fact that investment into virtual property is as important as investment into real property. This is for the sheer reason that in future, your virtual property investment can turn into either a real income source, or an escape from the regular routine.

Before jumping into buying land, you should first know the various lands that are available as offerings in Second Life™ (SL).
