Fashion, in my opinion, is the giant hammer that knocks Second Life and real life into two completely different categories. Let’s just say that today, in real life, I went out and revealed myself as a rebellious, roaring twenties woman with sass and flare. Short, gelled back hair, chest as flat as a board and smoked with a long cigarette. Of course, the only thing I would expect is dirty looks from average women with no sense of style and laughing teenagers. The reason? There is only one or two particular fashions for each generation in our day. But, with Second Life, you can be who you want, when you want, wherever you want. Of course it would be a tad silly to dress up as a ninja in a medieval role play but hey, it’s okay if you play the part and have a reason!
SL offers a great deal of genres to chose from, and I particularly love shopping for women’s clothing. Who cares if you have three of the same shirts? As long as they’re different colors then you can basically accessorize them with anything. One of my favorite accessorizing stores is +*Atelier AM*+. They have things like bangles, layered necklaces, head/hair accessories and loose socks. There’s also some really cute hair as well. It’s also quite a small store, which makes looking for something specific even easier to find! It’s a really great place to make outfits look less boring and I suggest every girl looking for an extra ‘umph’ in their outfit should check it out. Just make sure not to over clutter, because trust me, that’s the worst. Make sure to even accessories out as well, like giving things different levels of position. Some bangles on your wrist on one arm, some bangles above your elbow on the other arm, etc.

Needless to say, you need to have the right clothes to be enhanced by decorations. Personally, I hate TP'ing from place to place when there’s tons of lag and I’m in a great shopping mood. This is why I usually go for a specific region with all around good stores. Cupcake, is by far, the most amazing shopping area I’ve ever been to. It has shops like Kookie (a fabulous shoe and accessory store), Milk Motion, &bean, Gigi Couture and Royal Blue which include indie styles or very unique, vintage outfits that you can really wear with anything. Horst is also another great region with similar stores as well as Free*Style’s main store which is just filled with high quality free stuff!
The only reason I point these out is because indie/bohemian styles are really in right now. If you’re looking for something different, there’s Emery, which is more urban themed, or Artilleri which is really retro. If you’re looking for more of a modern, high-class look, I suggest Maitreya or maybe even Aoharu. How your personality is conceived on SL really depends on the way you look. If I saw someone in extremely gothic clothing, I’d think they’d have a negative personality, whereas if someone was in perky, florescent colors, I’d think they were really happy, bright people. It’s important not to judge a book by it’s cover but if your outfit screams attention then it’s expected that someone will. Just keep in mind that if the outfit is over-the-top, you’re most likely portraying something.
