Second Life Modeling

Second Life is an amazing virtual world, where things that would otherwise be hard, if not impossible to accomplish in the real world, is made easily possible. One such thing could be, becoming a professional and well sought after model in the fashion industry. What woman has not thought about wearing the latest fashions and being so sought after, like a complete superstar and the best thing about it? You don’t have to have a special talent to make it happen - just good resources, determination and knowledge. So how can you make this happen you wonder? It’s quite simple really, although getting it done will be anything but. The fashion industry within Second Life is practically a world and isolated community all it’s own - a world set apart from that of the average Joe and that elusiveness is what makes it so wonderful and attractive.

Now Second Life modeling is going to have a few similarities with real life such as your ethics, the type of work that you’ll receive, mediums you’ll work through but that’s where the similarities end.

Now Second Life modeling is going to have a few similarities with real life such as your ethics, the type of work that you’ll receive, mediums you’ll work through but that’s where the similarities end. The first thing you want to do is get to know the industry in Second Life. Knowing what’s in style in the real world is all well and good but you need to know the designers, agencies, magazines, etc. in here. That is where it will really count for you. I’d suggest buying as many SL fashion magazines as you can, such as Vain Inc, Second Style, etc. and reading up on what’s happening. You’ll not only get inside information you’ll also familiarize yourself with the fashions that are being featured, who’s popular and well exposed, what’s on everyone’s minds, and how models use their bodies and what they tend to go for in terms of fashion. You want to be as up-to-date as possible, the fashions and whims of this industry is forever changing.

I don’t think I have to say it but I will for those that need that extra little push to keep them going in the right direction. Your looks matter! I know it’s such a shocker right? As long as you have the right look - something easily produced with patience in editing your shape and avatar, or buying a great looking shape and skin - then you will be sure to go far in this career. People want models that look unique and beautiful. If you look like everyone else wearing the same skin that’s seen on nearly every other avatar, then they’re not going to want you in their agency or to represent their designs. Scout out high quality stores such as Soul Skins, LAQ, Lelutka, Rockberry, etc. and choose skins that look natural and go well with your shape or else modify your shape to fit the skin that you purchase.

After getting your look together and buying some high quality outfits - freebies will not get you anywhere in the industry I’m afraid - be sure to check out the modeling schools and or agencies available in-world. There are more than I can name but the high profile ones such as Evane, Glance are all great to check out. Training is tedious but it will take you farther than you can dream and get you the jobs and work that you want. Be careful to look into them seriously and check out what they offer. Some great institutes are Fashion Institute, Moda, Avenue, etc. Some schools are more expensive than others but it’s essential to go with the one you feel comfortable with personally and financially.

Last but far from least you need the passion, drive, and integrity to get far in this career. This surely isn’t for the faint of heart or those that want to play at being a model but it’s an actual business that is taken very seriously by all those that call it home. If you think you will make money by the boat loads let me disabuse you of that right now and if that’s the only reason you want to be apart of this industry, then I’d advise you to get a new profession and a stronger reason for being here. It can be hard work but to see those designs and be one of the first to wear them while seeing all the admiring glances come your way can but a mighty strong attraction and lure. But in Second Life where anything is possible, why not make your dream to be the beauty come true?
